I'm posting over at the BBA again about this topic.
My fear is that too many citizens have given up. I feel this way myself sometimes; that it's hopeless, government spending is out of control, the system is completely broken, we are no longer a republic, we are an empire, and those who hold the purse strings are so far removed from those who earn the money in the first place that there's no way to get it back under control.
I'm encouraged by this, this, and this, but disheartened by the lack of response from local bloggers so far.

Keep up the good posts. You've almost convinced my cynical self that there is something that can be done.
ill get vocal soon.
Pork barrel spending is nothing new, and it fits right in with the "me, me, me" attitude so prevalent these days. Politicians were quick to pick up on this - if they throw money at their constituents, regardless how ridiculous or unneeded the programs may be, they'll get votes next election. If they don't, the opposition will campaign on the slogan "what has Joe Blow done for YOU??!!".
What most people don't seem to realize is that the more we cut out of Federal Government, the more A) local control they will have over issues that directly affect them, and B) the more money they will have in their pockets!
Thanks for a good post. Keep it up!
